| Objective To investigate the efficacy of PETTLEP-based motor imagery training on hand function recovery in patients after hand trauma surgery. Methods A total of 120 patients undergoing hand trauma surgery were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, with 60 patients in each. Both groups received conventional rehabilitation training. Additionally, the experimental group underwent PETTLEP-based motor imagery training once daily for 30 minutes, 6 days a week for 4 consecutive weeks. Outcome measures included the Total Active Movement (TAM) of finger joints, maximum grip strength, pinch strength, and performance on the Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test (MMDT), specifically the placement test time and turning test time. Assessments were conducted before and after the 4-week intervention. Results After intervention, both groups demonstrated significant improvements in TAM, grip strength, pinch strength, and MMDT times compared to baseline (P<0.05). Notably, the experimental group showed significantly superior outcomes compared to the control group. The mean values for the experimental group were: TAM (183.51±12.69)°, maximum grip strength (12.23±1.38) kg, maximum pinch strength (8.12±2.34) kg, placement test time (211.29±14.75) s, and turning test time (289.58±19.32) s, which were significantly superior to those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Supplementing conventional rehabilitation with PETTLEP-based motor imagery training significantly enhances finger joint mobility, grip and pinch strength, and overall motor function in patients recovering from hand trauma surgery. |
